Fool's Gold

Hilarious and entertaining, Fool's Gold is deja vu for fans of How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days since both films feature the fantastic duo of Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. However, in this new film McConaughey takes the larger part instead of Hudson running the show like she did in How to Lose.

Although set up on a fantastic, nearly unbelievable plot, littered with intense, heavy handed circumstances, Hudson and McConaughey provide laughter and ease where there would otherwise have been sadness and stress. With other actors the plot could have potentially been an edge of your seat action adventure film. However, these two lighten it up an turn it into their own happy go lucky comedy.

Beginning with the couple's divorce, the audience is thrust into the plot with no delay. The root of the two's problems lie in Hudson's ambition additude and high expectations for McConaughey to perform at a higher level than that of which he is capable. McConaughey plays a beach bum with a lofty personality, no commitment or hard work, but extreme sex appeal. His only goal in life is to find buried treasure and this dream gets in the way of all of his other responsibilities, including getting a job or taking care of himself or wife. Later it becomes apparent that Hudson shares his passion for hunting buried treasure but is more realistic and able to act responsibly.

Now on her own Hudson gets a job on a boat and McConaughey tries unsuccesfully to stay out of trouble. Involved in some shady business he is nearly killed on multiple occasions (a situation that in any other movie could be extremely suspensful but here only makes the audience laugh.) However, when it's discovered that there may be a treasure to be found McConaughey is able to convince Hudson to help him find it. In an explanation that loses the audience after the first few sentences, the two begin their search for treasure amidst a spoiled rich girl and gay cooks. Still physically attracted to each other the two try to keep their search purely business but in the end unexpected twists leave everyone with things they never would have expected!

Although everything is wrapped up fairly well for the two main characters, supporting characters' stories are left open and never fully resolved. With an intense if not ridiculous plot, but amazing acting that keeps the audience interests, I give the movie a 3.5 on a scale of 1 to 5, (See the scoring guide on the ride) but I personally absolutely LOVED it, would watch it again and again, and recomment it anyone who wants to watch a fun entertaining movie!
